The Effects Of Drugs On Society s Perspectives On Drugs

The representation of drugs has been frequently changing since popular songs and films have emerged in the Western nations. These changes varied from a negative perspective to a more open and positive portrayal on drugs from the late 1800s till this present day respectively. The entertainment industry plays a huge role in the influence on society’s perspectives on drugs as some films would have depicted drugs being the cause of violence and tragedy while some other films would portray the drugs as a recreational use for some individuals who feel the need to use it to overcome the adversity of fitting into society or challenge it. Till this present day, even though there is a lot more optimism on the views of drugs than the earlier century,†¦show more content†¦Thus, why artists and writers would use this to send their ideas on the prohibition of drugs through media. The imagery of drugs slowly shifted away from the morality of anti-drugs, then focused towards normalising illegal drug use as it approached the years 1960s and 1970s. The film Easy Rider (1969) establishes two white men providing illegal drugs (cocaine) in exchange for money which would allow them to buy into their freedom or in other words the ‘American Dream’. Unfortunately the two men were murdered at the end of the film because they lost sight of their freedom as Boyd (2010, p.61) mentions ‘In Easy Rider, it is not the drug that produces harm (a dominant theme in earlier films); rather it is conventional society that is represented as dangerous, embodied in the form of working-class Southern white men†, a movie that wouldn’t have been screened 50 years ago from that period. This film also demonstrates the hardship of earning money and pursuing the American Dream would result to dealing drugs for cash in order for that dream to become a reality. Ma nderson (1995, p. 812) states ‘it reveals, furthermore, the ways in which â€Å"the drug problem† is not about the drugs at all. The law, as much as the user, must learn to â€Å"just say no†

Question: Discuss about the AProject Management Approach To Planning. Answer: Freds shed Construction A budget has to be prepared for construction of a shed for presenting it to the project steering committee. Mr. Jones wants Fred Smith to develop a shed with a cost of approximately, $40,000. According to the specifications given by Mr. Jones, a project budget has been prepared by considering the best quality materials for the project. The size of the shed to be prepared is considerably large as it should accommodate to store tractors, utility, vehicles and should include spaces for a workbench, tools and fertilizers. The project work should commence within six weeks and therefore, estimated date of project initiation is taken as 20th February 2018. Me. Jones has made it clear that he needs the whole work to be completed within 3 weeks and therefore, the date of project completion is roughly estimated to be 20th March 2018. The budget for the whole project work has been prepared considering the salary of all the project team members and the construction workers. The site preparation is a crucial step of the shed construction as it involves proper survey of the site and locating the boundaries of the site properly. Penalty Rates Given Imposed By Government â€Myassignmenthelp.Com

Question: Discuss About The Penalty Rates Given Imposed By Government? Answer: Introducation The Caf Cartagena operated 10 hours on each Sunday and has 5 employees. The penalty rates given imposed by the government for working on Sundays are $40 per hour. This let the employees earn $400 each on Sunday. The cost of salary for the caf owners is 400*5=$2000. The others costs including coffee cups and electric charges are $500. The cost of coffee machines is $1000. All these summed up to derive the accounting or explicit cost of the caf. This amount fell when government reduced the penalty rate to $20 and that further reduced total accounting cost. The implicit costs are being the opportunity cost the firm undertakes for running the coffee shop on Sundays. The economic profit and accounting profit figure also changed and shown in the following tables. Total Revenue from sales per Sunday $12,000 Explicit Cost Wages to employees $2000 Other costs (Coffee cups, electric etc) $500 Cost of coffee machine $1000 Total Explicit Cost $3500 Accounting Profit (less Explicit Cost) $8500 Table 1: Accounting Profit (Before Cut) Total Revenue from sales per Sunday $12,000 Explicit Cost (After Cut in Penalty Rate) Wages to employees $1000 Other costs (Coffee cups, electric etc) $500 Cost of coffee machine $1000 Total Explicit Cost $2500 Accounting Profit (less Explicit Cost) $9500 Table 2: Accounting Profit (After Cut) Total Revenue from sales per Sunday $12,000 Implicit Cost Rent of coffee shop on Sunday $1500 Total sacrifice made from withdrawing cash from bank $400 Total opportunity cost of owning business over job $800 Total Implicit Cost $2700 Total Explicit Cost $3500 Economic Profit (less Explicit Cost and Implicit Cost) $5800 Table 3: Economic Profit (Before Cut) Total Revenue from sales per Sunday $12,000 Implicit Cost (After Cut in Penalty Rate) Rent of coffee shop on Sunday $1500 Total sacrifice made from withdrawing cash from bank $400 Total opportunity cost of owning business job $800 Total Implicit Cost $2700 Total Explicit Cost $2500 Economic Profit (less Explicit Cost and Implicit Cost) $6800 Table 4: Economic Profit (After Cut) The average total cost defines the per unit cost of production. This can be derived by dividing total cost by total units of coffee sold. At this point, we consider total cost to be total accounting cost hence ATC= TC/Q = $3500/4000 = $0.875 After the cut in penalty rate by the government the total accounting or explicit cost fell to $2500 that further reduced average total cost equals to $2500/4000= $0.625 The concept of sunk cost refers to the cost made in production that can not retrieved or recovered back by any means. This is similar to fixed cost incurred in any production with only difference being fixed cost is the payment made inform of investment or contractual deal and can have possibility to be revered with higher scale of production and sales that would generate more revenue and profit. Higher ale would die down the fixed cost incurred with falling average and total cost of production and service. This combined with higher revenue earned reaps higher profit and the fixed cost becomes recovered over time. However, sunk cost is different. It is more like onetime payment or cost incurred that have no possibility or scope to be recovered by means of production, sales or any strategies. In our case study, the Caf incurs explicit cost and implicit cost respectively. Before the cut in the penalty rate there has not been any sunk cost in the business since all the costs made for pa ying the salary of employees, other cost including electric, coffee cup etc, cost of coffee machine and the opportunity cost of selling coffee on Sunday in Cartagena. After the government reduced the penalty rate of working on Sunday from $40 to $ 20, the caf incurred lower explicit cost with implicit cost remaining same. This increased the economic profit and accounting profit both in terms of extra earning. This induced them to celebrate and for that they drew cash of $1000 which they never returned. Now this amount can be treated as sunk cost, because this cannot be retrieved back through the means of selling coffee that also under no action taken by them in order to sale more and earn more profit. Cartagena operates in an extremely competitive market. Due to that they can not increase the price per cup of coffee in the shop because they know doing so will reduce the consumers of their service and that can be drastically low up to zero also. However, the owners have the ability to sell any number of coffees at the prevailing price of $3.00 per cup of coffee. This leads to elastic demand curve since for one unit increase in price no matter how small, the change in demand is infinitely large and falls to zero making the slope of the demand curve infinite and it looks like horizontal line. Due to operating in highly competitive market, they knew that they wont be able to make any changes in prices since that would lead to greater fall in the demand ultimately incurring loss. But they had the opportunity of increasing sales up to any units more than they did on each Sundays. Operating at their full capacity they were able to sell 4000 cups of coffees per Sunday. When the government reduced penalty rate it reduces accounting cost of the firm and increasing the economic profit than before. At this point they could hire more employees since per employee salary cost now reduced to half of the amount incurred previously. Utilizing the lower penalty rate, they could easily higher more and sell more to earn more. But they did not do so. Apparently, their decision might seem irrational but they actually took good decision. To justify this it can be highlighted from the case study that they were operating at full capacity. No matter how much more they employ, it was not possible to earn more if the capacity was not expanded. To extend and expand the capacity of production business plan and larger cost would have to be incurred. Moreover this takes time too since it is long run concept. Therefore, their decision was perfectly right as per my analysis. References Baumol, W. J., Blinder, A. S. (2015).Microeconomics: Principles and policy. Cengage Learning. Fisher, F. M., Shell, K. A Useful Plan of a Linguistics Research Paper Writing

A Useful Plan of a Linguistics Research Paper Writing Writing process is always a complicated thing which requires additional analytical, critical thinking, and research skills. In addition, any academic paper demands a serious preliminary study. It differs both from the art or technical text, and from the journalistic article. According to the specifics of any paper, it requires the particular means of its creation. The words â€Å"research paper† fully characterizes contents and the primary objective of the statement: description of results of own research. The structure of the essay is subordinated to the fundamental objective of the research. The process of research paper writing is thorough and profound work. Thus, it demands the maximum concentration of thought and imagination along with specific knowledge and skills. However, it is easier to write the research paper when you have some guidelines which can help you highlight the possible directions for you. Is Linguistics Worth Studying? The linguistics is first of all the science about language. Such understanding means an examination of all aspects of the phenomena. Linguists seek how to simulate the unconscious knowledge of the native language by adults and development of the first language by children. They aimed at investigating the structure of the specific languages and human language in general, describing a variety of languages in the world, and, at last, studying how language influences our daily communication and in what degree it defines our perception of the world around. Linguists investigate how we master the native language, and how our knowledge of the language is connected with other cognitive processes, as it varies in different regions. Linguistics examines the structure of various language components (for example, sounds and word combinations) and their interaction, describes and explains a variety of language substructures. Many linguists are engaged in the field work, collecting material which allows them to understand better the concrete languages and human language organization. They work with carriers of the most different languages to investigate the particular phenomena of their grammar and/or to describe these languages entirely. Still, linguists use big databases (or cases) and perform well-elaborated experiments with children and adults at schools, in field conditions, and in university laboratories to understand better how any language works. What Is Linguistics Research Paper? Linguistics research paper is the independently written academic work which shows the ability of the student to analyze linguistics literature, empirical material (for example, words, idioms, phrases). In essence, it is the final stage of any linguistics course which includes the theoretical and practical knowledge obtained during studying. It is not recommended to limit your linguistics research paper only to the theoretical bases. The essential point of the whole linguistics research paper is creating a specific statement considering the chosen linguistics problem and describing your results obtained with the help of specific instruments: methodology, research methods, etc. Thus, it is obvious that the research paper is not the compilation of paragraphs from different Internet and other sources without any references. The Linguistics research paper writing is not an essay where you share the comments on the language destiny and/or meaning of life in a free form. The linguistics res earch paper is your scientific text where, except correctly issued quotes from works of other scientists, your analysis and your conclusions are the solution to a scientific problem. Why Is Linguistics Research Paper Important? With the help of linguistics research paper you learn how to: compare the different points of view on a stated problem; form an own position (especially concerning questions which seem to you general and irrelevant); analyze the facts (on the example of that small fragment of language which you will choose); state thoughts (in particular, according to the requirements of a certain style – in this case, the scientific one); follow the rules (technical registration of work, structuring material, etc.). plan (time, work, volumes); present the information logically. At last, a linguistics research paper is one of the most personal components of education. It is considered that you investigate the topic which is attractive and challenging for you; elaborate the problem important for you, and, therefore, you try to solve it in the best way. How to Choose an Ideal Topic for Linguistics Research Paper? Our Writers Advise Very often, the most difficult thing in writing is to choose the appropriate topic. Definitely, the success of writing the paper and completeness the thought statement in many respects depends on the right topic. Therefore, it is advisable to pay considerable attention to this issue. Try to define the sphere of linguistics you would like to study and then define the problem in this sphere which needs to be solved. At least, you will find a general understanding of the desirable topic. Also, you can ask your professor for help. No less important is to formulate an exact and specific subject, avoiding generalization. Good Topics Examples Specific topics and questions which solves the particular problem. Language as Semiotic System; Idioms and Their Transformation in Newspaper Headings; Semantic Fields as the Way of Language World Picture Realization; The language of Media as a Reflection of World Changes: Global and Local Vocabulary; Interpenetration and Interference of Terminological, Common, and Colloquial Vocabulary. Bad Topic Examples Too generalized statements which do not contribute to science and do not solve any problem. What Is Language? History of the English Language; Phraseologisms in the Arabic Language; How to Translate Terminology. How to Make the Competent Outline for the Research Paper? Planning and elaborating the structure is one more critical point of organizing and writing the linguistics research paper. If you do not take into consideration some essential rules for creating the outline, it surely will negatively affect the result of the whole academic work. In this regard, pay attention to the fundamental structure of the research paper which has to be followed strictly. On the basis of the structure, you will be able to elaborate on the helpful outline for your linguistics research paper. Structure of the Linguistics Research Paper What rules of the writing of the linguistics research paper exist? The main is that the research paper must stick to the established structure. Following the structure, it is possible to create an algorithm (the sequence of actions) of research paper writing. To write the excellent linguistics research paper, you only must follow the step-by-step instructions, relying on own experience, by many tests and mistakes. The contents of the analysis for different subjects can be different, but its structure always quite rigid. Any research paper surely contains the basic elements without which it is impossible to write a thorough analysis. Title (name of your work); Abstract (short summary of the task and subtasks which you will consider within your research; it should also include keywords the specific terms critical for your paper); Introduction (consists of the general statement of the problem, its exploration degree, and thesis which states the main objective of your research paper); Methodology (ways of obtaining the necessary material for studying); Research methods (ways of analyzing the obtained material); Results (your findings); Discussion (explanation and application of the theoretical knowledge in the field); Conclusion (includes the answer to your main question and generalized results); Recommendations (this section contains the explanation where the results of your research can be applied and how they contribute to the general understanding of the problem); Reference list (sources used for writing the paper). How to Choose a Methodology? There are plenty of ways which can be helpful in obtaining the material for further analysis. The method of field researches assumes collecting and the analysis of primary data according to the purpose of concrete research. Many linguistics studies assume use of primary information in various forms (for example, dialectal words, professional vocabulary items, etc.). To the most widespread methods of collecting primary information for observation, an experiment and poll panel, or focus group method. Observation is one of the possible ways of collecting primary data when the researcher conducts the direct observation of the persons involved in the analyzed situation, for instance, a communicative act. How to Choose Your Research Methods? Linguistics methods do not represent a uniform set of the principles, and ways of research, and the description of language entities. It is impossible to provide a sufficient explanation of linguistic methods for all linguistics or general scientific paradigms. However, it is possible to allocate methods, directed to the solution of problems of descriptive and theoretical linguistics and to proceed from some generalized ideas of the current state of linguistics and its methodical preferences. There are various research methods which can be helpful for studying any particular linguistics aspect. You are free to choose those methods which are the most suitable for your research. For instance, the distributive method is a method of linguistics research which implies the classification of language units and studying of their properties only on the basis of the distribution of the considered units in the speech, i.e., on the basis of their compatibility. By means of a final set of semantic components, it is possible to describe an unlimited set of lexical units. The technology of semantic multipliers allocation consists in consideration of words and allocation of some signs breaking words into different classes and semantic groups, for example, on such signs as animate/inanimate, male /female, etc. It is possible to mark out also more differentiated signs for classes of words, for example, animals, fishes, birds, people, etc. Thus, the value of each word is represented as a set of such semantic multipliers. The linguistic research paper also can imply the application of deduction and induction. The process of scientific research in such situation can be bidirectional: from the facts to entities or from entities to the facts. An inductive method of the organization of scientific process in a whole consists in collecting and documentation of the concrete phenomena (facts) with their subsequent generalization and transition from the facts to the entities which are their cornerstone. The deductive method as a starting point assumes, on the contrary, the postulation of entities based on certain assumptions and check of the reality of these entities for their compliance (or discrepancy) to the observed facts. Methods of differential calculus are applied, mainly, by consideration of such phenomena at which conditions language units and their properties continuously change. The following group of techniques is united by the approach based on the analysis of substantial characteristics of the speech. A specific place is taken by qualitative and quantitative analysis of the speech or language, so-called content analysis. Among methods of the content analysis, the methods developed within psychoanalysis are widely known. How to Find Sources? Information requires search on the Internet and work with files. Before starting writing directly, it is necessary to collect enough information considering the chosen topic. One of the main sources of information is, of course, the Internet. The worldwide network gives really huge opportunities for the fast, high-quality writing of the linguistics research paper. However, it concerns mainly the theoretical part, for writing the discussion section, because the methodology and results section require specific fieldwork. Moreover, it is advisable to find some information in libraries and databases. Despite the power of the Internet, it should not be considered as the only source of information for writing the linguistic research paper. The literature found in a library is capable of enriching your material considerably. List of valuable sources for a linguistics paper includes: Sharifian, Farzad. Cultural Linguistics: Cultural Conceptualisations and Language. John Benjamins Publishing Company., 2017. Becker, Annette, and Markus Bieswanger. Introduction to English Linguistics. UTB, 2017. Martin, J. R. Systemic Functional Linguistics. Routledge, 2015. How to Cite Sources Properly? Creating the reference list also has its specific features. Thus, it is recommended to address Owl Purdue Writing Lab which contains all nuances considering appropriate sources’ citing. Some Useful Reminder In the Discussion section, you can provide the history of studying the problem you chose, providing the information from the peer-reviewed articles. To write the Discussion chapter, you have to read the main literature on the subject of your research, formulate the main problems considered in works of predecessors, and state it in a condensed form with quotes. In other words, it is necessary to tell accurately and systemically what is already known on this subject. It is good if you manage to allocate various approaches to studying your language units, various understanding of terms, etc. In that case, do not forget to write to which scientific attitude you adhere. It is even better if you are able to formulate what aspects of a problem have not received due lighting in works of other scientists, etc. In the Results section, you should describe the findings you got from your research. Just tell in details what was made by you. It is recommended to translate the analyzed words and statements in foreign languages; you will better understand what you write. Conclusion requires the summary of your findings, while Recommendation part implies including all prospects of research. All in all, be attentive with the structure of the paper, cite the specific information you use, and proofread the text of your work to avoid grammar, lexical, and stylistic errors. Remember that your contribution to linguistics can appear quite important, so try to make your research paper useful in practical and theoretical terms. Consequently, your findings might shed light on some challenging linguistics aspect.

Review of In On It essays

Review of In On It essays The production of In On It contains three separate yet intertwined plots. The first story introduced is one of man who is dying of an incurable disease and whose marriage is on the verge of divorce. Next comes the post-modern story of two actors quarreling over the best way to act out the play they wrote. Additionally there is a story of gay lovers reminiscing about their past and putting an effort to make their relationship succeed. The transitions between stories are easily facilitated through the use of set design, lighting, and acting. Throughout the majority of the play there are only blocks of light shone directly on the actors, leaving the stage and surrounding environment completely black. This leaves a trace of ambiguity as to where the scene is taking place, and involves the audience in allowing them to use their imagination. In this way scene changes are believable and can take place in an instant when cued by the lighting or the actors. Switching between characters is done simply by the actors being illuminated in a different light, and maybe changing posture or tone of voice. The struggle for meaning is a central theme in the play, and the directing certainly reflects that. A parallel can clearly be seen between the constant changing of scenes to make sense of the stories, and the characters themselves striving to find meaning in their own lives. We also see this through the jacket that is merely in a beam of blue light at the beginning, but gains more and more meaning as the play moves forward. The narrative form helps the audience to relate to the characters in this way and gives the story cohesiveness. Despite relief from a few comic scenes, the general mood of this play was more dramatic, reminding us constantly that death and loss are major parts of life. These motifs are seen obviously through the ill man who loses his family, health, and ultimately his life through the car crash. We also see loss when the tw...

Play Activity Observation With Critical Evaluation Essay

Play Activity Observation With Critical Evaluation - Essay Example 6) denotes that Early Years Foundation Stage has principles that can be put into practice that can help in learning and development of the child. We should consider the fact children develop in different ways and rates therefore, all areas of learning and development are interconnected and equally important. This paper intends to determine with the section of EYFS that will relate to the play activity and provide critical evaluation for the child’s (Tina) activity. It will also determine relevant theories that can be applied with this case study with relation to EYFS. Criteria Early Years Foundation Stage is made up of six areas that are essential in learning and development. Each of these areas helps the child in personal, social and emotional development. It entails dispositions and attitudes that are essential in building self confidence and self esteem. Play activities help in making relationships with other children. The aspects of learning and development help the child in communication and language literacy (Moss and Pence, 1994, p. 40). The child will have knowledge and understanding of the environment around him. This will aid in physical development as the child will be able to move while attaining body awareness. Ultimately, it will assist the child in creative development as they will be creative through responding to experiences through communication of ideas to his peers. Critically evaluating Tina’s activity, we realize that this play activity that was arranged by the class teachers. Under learning and development, play and exploration is a technique that the teachers used to help Tina receive a quality experience that will assist her in development and learning. They organized a play activity that mainly entailed foot painting. Tina had put on her tights and did not want to join her fellow classmates in the exercise. However, the teacher went and reassured her that it was alright and gave her the confidence to play. When she was to ld by her the teacher that her mother said it was ok. She later agreed to take part in the exercise and it is from this exercise that, the teachers were able to monitor how Tina was able to learn through play. Play and exploration help the children reflect on wide ranging activities, preoccupations and varied interests. During this play activity, it is evident that Tina learns at her highest level as this provides her with a variety of ideas that she can engage in. Tina plays with her peers with is important in her development as she will discover different ways of doing things (Whitebread, 1996, p. 211). This is evident as she dances where there a lot of paint has been poured. As the children start to play, they tend to express fears through reliving anxious experiences. This is evident when Tina is asked to remove her tights so that she can participate in foot painting. She refuses to do so but the teacher reassures her that her mother told them it was ok. Children learn through e xperience, Tina had to experience this play both physically and emotionally. She took off her tights and stepped on the red paint depicting physical activity. After stepping on the paint she started laughing, jumping and screaming with joy. She illustrated emotions as she was enjoying the play. Children may play by themselves or with others. Tina started by playing by herself when she

Hepatitis c Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

Hepatitis c - Essay Example It exists in six genotypes, of these genotype I is most prevalent form of HCV. Since the virus exists in different genotypes and sub-genotypes, it becomes very challenging for the development of its vaccines. HCV is not related to other hepatitis viz. hepatitis A or hepatitis B. It is grouped in the family Flaviviridae along with yellow fever virus and dengue virus. As soon as virus gains entry in the liver, it elicits immune response resulting in inflammation; protracted inflammation lays the foundation of scarring which further takes the form of cirrhosis and thus preventing liver to perform its normal functions. Such condition paves the way for liver cancer (Alter, 2000). It is transmitted through blood especially through blood transfusion, use of unsterile injections and rarely through sexual transmission (in cases where an individual is suffering with Sexually Transmitted Disease and has open sores). 7. Sporadic transmission: in this case the source of the infection cannot be found out, it results due to community-acquired infections where virus gets entry in body through cuts or injuries or an abrasion (Alter, 2000). Use of sterile needles, safe hygiene conditions and routine blood examination, taking complete history of the patient, thorough screening of the blood for HCV when blood is donated by a donor or when given to the patient, use of self-capped needles, no sharing of personal belongings like razor, towels, toothbrushes, Acute: it is the initial 6 months when the patient contacts the infection of Hepatitis C. as the disease is asymptomatic no initial signs appear in majority of the population. Response Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words - 11

Response - Essay Example A few pages into it and I realized how engrossing it is for me. I could totally relate myself to the writer’s description about the non serious and lax attitude the students hold towards college education. Their fears and trepidations about the whole experience, their eagerness to skip college on the whole and pursue their careers immediately after graduation so that they can instill in themselves a sense of independence. His approach to my attitude was so evident, it felt as if he is actually pointing at me and talking to me. I am already half way through my book. I feel I have a lot to learn from the writer’s example. He reflects upon the methods of teaching the college adapts and the kind of learning process the students go through. College education not only imparts higher education but it gives the students the ideal opportunity to prepare themselves for the lifelong career they are planning to pursue. For me, I feel college education will not only give me the facility and time to imbue in myself the professionalism and confidence required ahead but to explore my career options as well. Today I finished the book, going tentatively through its last pages, reflecting on my college experience on the whole and how can I make a difference that will allow me to make the most of it. I review my subjects again, this time with much greater foresight and interest. For the first time, I bothered to attend my career counseling appointment. I discussed in detail with the counselor, of my ambitions and aspiration and if I am taking the best measures to ensure its achievements. I decided that I will take up an internship at my college so that I can further build up on my resume. In fact, I left my book at the career counselor’s desk deliberately so that he can recommend it to other students going through the same transformation as me.

With the passage of time as the profitability of the current product increases we will go into line extension that is the manufacturing of other shirts for casual and formal wear (The Finance Resource 2010). All pre-event communication will be created in-brand our website, and other media methods we are adopting. This will build up expectation. MARKETING AND BRAND STRATEGY 3.1 Market Analysis Summary The T-shirt Company has segmented this market into two groups. The first target group is one who prefers already made designs. The second group prefers the customized designs. The basis of segmentation is again based on the demographic of the buyers as there are two separate groups of buyers (Laroche, Michel, Zhou and Kim 1996). 3.2 Market Segmentation The market has been segmented into two groups on the basis of the following two characters. By product type Age group 3.3 Target Market Segment Strategy The T-shirt Company has selected two market segments i.e. follow demographic segmentation and the second is based on Psychographic segmentation. The reason is that the customers will chose according to their lifestyle (Ackerberg 2001). 3.4 Business Analysis The T-shirt industry is brick and mortar based. This business is mostly niche but The T-shirt Company is meant to cater to the general market. Most of the associate in the industry fall into two major categories which include those that sell to individuals and secondly those that vend in multi-unit production (Brister 1991). 3.5 Competition The T-shirt will face local as well as international brand competition. Along with the online competitors brick and mortar competition is also prevailing in the market. Large numbers of companies are involved in computer based techniques to cut costs. The T-shirt Company is able to influence proprietary expertise as an aggressive edge to produce much higher quality computer sublimation (Gauzente and Ranchhod 2002). 3.6 Promotion Strategy We will adopt the push strategy making use of a companys sales force and trade endorsement activities to create consumer demand for a product (Laroche, Michel, Zhou and Kim 1996), 3.7 Price and pricing strategy The per unit price of each item i.e. one t-shirt is $ 20 which is very competitive as compared to the market. The price charged for products and services is set synthetically low in order to gain market share. Once this is achieved, the price will be increased. This approach will help in attaining the market share initially (Johnson 1998). 3.8 Strategy and Implementation Summary The T-shirt Company will influence its two competitive edges on rivals to quickly grasp and gain market share. These two competitive edges are wide range of graphic designs and the cost efficiency of the technology. Student groups and Youth events will be targeted. The same way, the sales campaign will attract the customers through word of mouth referrals (The Finance Resource 2010). Here you just define the things but you didnt explained what our company will do. I think if you read the details properly, you can find the proper procedure regarding the companys working 4. Branding is all done by sprinting. Graphics approves through e-mail. No hidden charges Free delivery to customers (I noticed you are giving references in every paragraph, but this is the plan in which we have to write our own company plan, so there should be more words(plan or strategies) from our side) You are absolutely right but This is the same way we asked you in HR assignment if you remember.. but we were asked to insert the reference in every part of the assignment 4.9 Market Audit The audit will include psychoanalysis of the companys marketing strategy, marketing association and marketing efficiency. It must be organized in order to give concrete conclusions based on the analysis. To make certain impartiality, this market audit is best done by a department, person or organization that is independent and is away of the marketing program. Marketing audits must not to be done when the value of a current marketing plan of a company is in problem; it has to be done sporadically to isolate and resolve problems prior to they arise. Marketing audit will be held in case if the existing marketing plan fails to operate effectively. The audit will be run accordingly to solve the problems in advance. It means that marketing audit will help the company in gauging its profitability and effectiveness (Xiaofen and Yiling 2009). The company will actively look, make possible, and give confidence for feedback, both encouraging and pessimistic by creating friendly and omnipresence of complaint and suggestion systems (Woerndl 2007). 4.10 Management Our influential online entrusted management system can make possible all communication; this includes organization of enticement and registrations, ensuring all delegate necessities are met 5. PROJECTED PROFIT AND LOSS STATEMENT 5.1 Financial Look Up The sales forecast is sensibly conservative so that goals will be attainable. Sales will be slow at the start, a function of the fact that The T-Shirt Company is just a start up organization and it will get time to build an ample foundation. The total budget we assume $100,700/- approx here we take assumption of increase in sale and percentage of taxes and interest rates. 5.2 Assumptions Percentage Increase in Sale 147% Percentage Cost Of Sale 147% Inflation Rate 21% Increase in Rent per Year 10% Payroll Tax 15% Interest on Debt 10% Tax Rate 30% Total Equity 25200 Total Debt 75500 5.3 Sensitivity Analysis The company can also faces any declines in terms of revenues in economic downtown and our product which basically considered as a non-essential item and therefore company can also faces any issues in profitability and income due economic recession. So considering the fact Company has to pay attention and focus on the sales and the profits earning should remain same or even better in any economic stage (The Finance Resource 2010). 5.4 Income Statement Year 1 Year 2 $ $ Sales 117882 291169 Direct cost of sale 58941 145584 Other Cost of Goods 0 0 Total Cost of Sale 58941 145584 Gross Margin 58941 145584 Percentage of Gross Margin 50% 50% Expenses Payroll 68400 82764 Sales, Marketing and other Expenses 2500 3025 Depreciation 996 996 Rent 11000 12100 Utilities 3300 3993 Insurance 3000 3630 Payroll Taxes 10260 11799 Total Operating Expenses 99456 118307 Profit Before Interest and Expenses -40515 27277.27 EBITDA -39519 28273.27 Interest Expense 6045 5700 Taxes Incurred 0 5743 Net Profit -46560 15834.27 Net Profit/Sale -39% (set it at -25%) 5%(this is ok) Note: 1$ = Rs. 85 (PKR) 6. CONTROL METHODS The control method comprises of the following efficiency calculating techniques. 6.1 Sales Analysis Monthly sales forecast and the target meted will be matched to find the accuracy of the promotional campaign .It will help in comparing the sales target and the discrepancies (Urban 2004). 6.2 Market-share analysis Market share will be analyzed keeping in view the sales of other competitors (Gauzente and Ranchhod 2002). 6.3 Expense-to-sales analysis It will clearly demonstrate the range of costs that are explicit and implicit of achieving the company sales target (The Finance Resource 2010). 6.4 Financial analysis Strict financial accountability will exist. It will calculate various performance ratios such as profit margin, Expense-to-sales analysis, sales to assets and profits to worth (Cateora and Graham 2007). 6.5 Customer satisfaction It is the eventual pointer of tracking goal accomplishment. Recurrent satisfaction and customer constancy surveys should form an essential part of any marketing drive (Gauzente and Ranchhod 2002). 6.6 Profitability control There is no point in extravagant limited resources on marketing efforts that guarantee nothing except name appreciation. The company will focus and check what products and consumer groups give in the most profits and assessment of running campaigns (Cateora and Graham 2007). 6.7 Efficiency control The local picture is important. The company will scrutinize if there are any divergence between the feedback of consumer types and various market niches (Brister 1991). 6.8 Strategic control The accompaniment of effectiveness control is tactical control. It counts for the overall and long-term marketing plan: It will clearly bring to the front the weaknesses, and market opportunities (Gauzente and Ranchhod 2002). 6.9 Marketing audit The marketing audit is the raw matter for the tactical control. It will ensure that the marketing plan highlight the companys strengths that are well-matched with shifting market reaction, events, fashions, predilection, needs, and precedence of consumers (Cateora and Graham 2007).

The Space Race: USA vs USSR Essay -- The Space Race

The Space Race was a war of firsts between the United States of America and the Union Soviet Socialist Republics. But it was also the culmination of the dreams of man for many millennia and the team who worked on the space programs were able to discover what so many of the people that came before and after them could only dream of. It was an endeavor that all of humanity was invested in at the time. It was a testament to the power of the human spirit and it showed how nothing was impossible if we persevered and strived to be better. The space race did not start as one would expect with the respective American and Soviet space agencies. But rather it began with the German V2 missile launches towards the end of World War 2. The V2 missile was designed by Wernher Von Braun a German scientist who had dreamed of traveling to the moon for many years; however this dream had to be secret as it was considered to be treasonous and not helpful to the German cause. Von Braun and many other amateur rocketeers were drafted into the German war machine in order to help build a super weapon and their base was Peenemà ¼nde. When the war was nearing its end the Third Reich unleashed its secret weapon, the V2 missile. It could hit anywhere within its target range and there would be no warning. When it hit, it caused scenes of mass destruction. The V2 missiles were to be Hitler’s ace in the hole. However by then it was far too late the war had already been lost with Soviets advancing from the East and the other Allies from t he west and when the Allies discovered the German’s V2 missile they knew that they would have to have it as it was decades further than what they had on their own. So when truce was declared it was a race between the Americans and... ...on/timeline/timeline2.html>. "PGM-19 Jupiter." Wikipedia. Wikimedia Foundation, 04 Dec. 2014. Web. 13 Apr. 2014. The Stages of a Purchase

The Stages of a Purchase Free Online Research Papers Everyday consumers go through a series of self questions, prior to the purchase of goods or services. In this paper we will discuss the Buyer Decision Processes questions with Steve and Dan pertaining to their recent computer purchase. 1. Need Recognition (Q). Dan, what was it that made you want to go out and buy a computer? (A). I’ve had a computer for about four years now, which had recently been acting up. I saw an ad. on TV that Circuit City was having a sale, and decided it was time to upgrade and Circuit City just so happened to be right around the corner from my house. (Q). Steve, what was it that made you want to go out and buy a computer? (A). I recently enrolled in online courses for college and my current computer was extremely slow due to music songs and games on it, so I wanted a faster one just for school. Comparing Dan and Steve’s reasons for wanting to buy new computers I would have to say that Dan’s motive to purchase was an external stimuli which was created by a companies special offer and Steve’s computer purchase was forced through an internal stimuli based off the reasoning being he felt he was driven to the need because his current computer is so slow. One thing that stands out however is that Dan and Steve both are having some type of issue with their current computer which is what is pushing them to a new one. 2. Information Search (Q). Dan, where did you get the information on the computer you purchased? (A). I got the information from the Circuit City sales person on the computer that was advertised. (Q). Steve, where did you get the information on the computer you purchased? (A). I went online to www.consumerreports.com where I looked up computers and then made my purchase. Looking at how Dan and Steve went about collecting information on their purchases I would sat that Dan was extremely driven to the computer which he saw in the TV ad while Steve went into his purchase more objectively by looking at what some of the better computers were on the consumer report website instead of relying on a sales persons advice. 3. Evaluation of Alternatives (Q). Dan, what three things were most important to you while looking for your new computer? (A). The first thing was the price, I had to stay with in a budget so it was most important. The second thing was screen size, I wanted something that was larger then 13 inches. The third thing was the graphics card because I wanted good graphics for my games. (Q). Steve, what three things were most important to you while looking for your new computer? (A). My first concern was the amount of memory the computer had. Number two was a computer with the Vista operating system by Microsoft. The third thing I wanted in my computer was a key pad located to the right of the letters. After analyzing what each person wanted in their computers it was obvious that Steve was more concerned about the quality of his computer where as Dan cared more about his personal budget then the quality of the computer he was buying. 4. Purchase Decision (Q). Dan, why did you decide on the computer you bought? (A). After looking at the computer that was in the ad and talking to the sales representative I realized the computer was still what I needed that was in my price range. (Q.). Steve, why did you decide on the computer you bought? (A). Well after looking at consumer reports and reading the reviews on each of the computers that had the things I wanted I went with the highest rated computer that would make my online schooling easier. During the purchase decision both Dan and Steve continued on the same path they had started from the beginning. Dan went with his pocket book while Steve researched online and went with higher quality through recommendation. (Q). Dan, were you happy with the purchase you made? (A). No, I actually wish I would have looked into some other choices besides the one I picked. My computer continues to freeze up in the middle of what I am doing very similar to my old computer. (Q). Steve, were you happy with the computer you bought? (A). Yes, my computer works great for a school computer and having a number key pad off to the right has been a life saver being a math major. After compiling all of the information from both Dan and Steve I will say that they both went at their computer purchase with two different styles. Looking at how Dan started his process it seems that he may not have really been ready to purchase a computer or initially did not think the cost of a computer related to the quality of the computer. I would have to say that Dan’s purchase had a lot to do with his demographics seeing that he was more concerned with getting in and out as well as purchasing at a low cost. Steve on the other hand took his time and researched his computer; he was not worried about the cost of the computer as much as he was worried about what was offered with the computer and its quality rating, based on how Steve went into his purchasing process I would say his experience was based on behavioral tendencies. Patagonia Business Analysis

Patagonia Business Analysis Free Online Research Papers Patagonia is outdoor equipment and clothing company that began as a group of climbers and surfers who were trying to find a better way to do what they love. They began by creating climbing equipment but they quickly became set apart from their competition by their overwhelming concern for the environment. Build the best product, cause no unnecessary harm, use business to inspire and implement solutions to the environmental crisis (Patagonia). This is their mission as a company and is what has set them apart by leading the green movement in the business world. â€Å"Patagonia grew out of a small company that made tools for climbers. Alpinism remains at the heart of a worldwide business that still makes clothes for climbing – as well as for skiing, snowboarding, surfing, fly fishing, paddling and trail running. These are all silent sports. None requires a motor; none delivers the cheers of a crowd. In each sport, reward comes in the form of hard-won grace and moments of connection between us and nature. Our values reflect those of a business started by a band of climbers and surfers, and the minimalist style they promoted. The approach we take towards product design demonstrates a bias for simplicity and utility. For us at Patagonia, a love of wild and beautiful places demands participation in the fight to save them, and to help reverse the steep decline in the overall environmental health of our planet. We donate our time, services and at least 1% of our sales to hundreds of grassroots environmental groups all over the world who work to help reverse the tide. We know that our business activity – from lighting stores to dyeing shirts – creates pollution as a by-product. So we work steadily to reduce those harms. We use recycled polyester in many of our clothes and only organic, rather than pesticide-intensive, cotton. Staying true to our core values during thirty-plus years in business has helped us create a company were proud to run and work for. And our focus on making the best products possible has brought us success in the marketplace† (Patagonia). It is apparent that they do things different than the traditional organization but that is what makes them such a successful company. Patagonia’s strategy is based on the philosophy of â€Å"Let my People Go Surfing†. They have created a work environment of self management that allows employees to work when and how they please as long as they get their work done. At Patagonia’s office in Ventura, California there is no dress code or shift work. There is an on site day care and the owner, Yvon Chouinard, has the same desk as all the rest of the employees. Their strategy is to create a work environment that their employees enjoy being a part of and they have found that it works very well. Their pay structure is relatively flat and wages are lower than the industry average but their turnover rate is only 4.5 percent. Their strategy of a family workplace and an environment that is conducive to the products that they promote is an innovative idea that has led them to the top of the industry. According to the O*NET summary of the job, the task section consist of many different aspects. The tasks section can be summarized by several major groups. The first task would be to establish and maintain relationships with other agencies and organization. They also must manage activities of professionals and technical staff member as well as volunteers. Also with this job comes the task of research in order to stay up to date on the environmental movement. Finally there are many public speaking tasks involved with this job, both internally and externally. The knowledge required for this job is more than just traditional education. It is required to have an understanding of the English language as well as the ability to research new topics and then educate them to others. One of the most important requirements of this job deals with psychology and being able to understand and interact with other people. You will need to educate others as well interact with many organization leaders both corporate and social. The final knowledge needed for this job is the ability to manage people, both individually and in a group setting. The skills and abilities needed for this position consist mostly of listening and speaking skills. The environmental campaign is an ever changing field and it is very important to be able to listen to these environmental groups and then have the ability to relate the information back to the organization. Other required skills consist of time management skills, social skills, monitoring, and critical thinking. The specific work activities for this job consist of: establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships, making decisions and solving problems, communication with supervisors, working directly with public, organizing and planning work, thinking creatively, and negotiating with others. The Alabama summary of the job is to plan, organize, or coordinate the activities of a social service program or community outreach organization. Oversee the program or organizations budget and policies regarding participant involvement, program requirements, and benefits. Work may involve directing social workers, counselors, or probation officers. The major difference between the Alabama summary and the national summary of the job is that in Alabama the job is mostly based on social work as apposed to environmental work. This summary consists of creating activities for community outreach organizations as apposed to working with the environmental campaign. The Environmental Grants Manager for Patagonia works mostly with people, but the purpose is focused on the environment rather than community outreach. The pay in Alabama is ranked 35 in terms of this job nationally and pays significantly lower wages than the national average. The position in which I am the most interested within Patagonia is the Environment Grants Manager. The Environmental Grants Manager is responsible for the management, marketing (internally and externally) and successful implementation of the Company’s environmental grants program. They coordinates all aspects of the US grants program, including: grant giving, creation of annual Environmental Initiatives Booklet, and implementation of non-cash services, such as the Tools for Grassroots Activist Conference and the employee environmental internship program. They will assist the Director of Environmental Programs with the development and implementation of corporate environmental campaigns and programs, environmental advertising, and public affairs related to the Company’s environmental efforts. (Patagonia) The specific functions of the job consist of: managing and developing the structure of the company’s environmental grants program, strategy and mission, performin g environmental research, educating the company’s customers on the grants program, managing and developing the employees understanding of environmental campaigns, and networking with other foundations and corporate grant workers. The knowledge, skills, and abilities for the job consist of: a degree in environmental studies, minimum of six years experience in the environmental movement, leadership experience as a project manager, extensive public speaking and public relation skills, excellent writing skills, and proficiency in Microsoft word, excel, and access (Patagonia). The former EGM, Jessica Clayton, is the person who I had the opportunity of interviewing. Although there are many specific job task for this job, the actually work that they do is very interesting. Patagonia co founded 1% For the Planet, which is the program the this position is responsible for. This is how Patagonia gives back to the earth by donating 1% of sales to small environmental campaigns (Chou inard). Jessica’s job was to travel around meeting different representatives for these environmental groups and seeking the best way that Patagonia could help. She acted as the liaison for the company and chose which organization they could best serve. Her other major responsible was to educate the organization on the current environmental issues and research the best ways to help. Patagonia is different than any other company in the industry because not only to they give to these organizations they seek to educate and find innovative ways to cure these problems. As the Environmental Grants Manager I would have the opportunity to meet people all over the world and work as one in order to help save our world. There are several supervisors for the EGM position but the person is really responsible for the environmental work at Patagonia is Rick Ridgeway. He has been with Patagonia for over 30 years and has been leading the environmental group for quite some time. As a supervisor of the environmental campaign he oversees all the operations but is still very active in the actual campaign. The unique thing about Patagonia, is the way the organization is set up. If you were to walk into their headquarters in California, upon first sight you would be able to tell the difference between the CEO and the mail man. This is how they have designed their organization to have a family feel and encourage everyone to work together to accomplish their overall goal. So in terms of performance appraisal and evaluation, everything is very informal and all employees are evaluated by their performance on a daily basis (Chouinard). Because Patagonia is a private company, I couldn’t find out any inf ormation about the pay structure, but I don’t know that they are paid below the industry average and have a very flat organization. Patagonia was founded in Ventura California and has been located there for over 30 years. The average pay this position in the state of California is $56,500 compared to Alabama is $44,500. I think the biggest reason for the difference in pay between the two states is based the job description. The state of Alabama is a little behind on their environmental campaign so this job is based more on people with in the community and is considered social. Due to this change in the jobs throughout the states, the pay is quite flexible. The development plan is based on training and mentoring its employees to live the Patagonia lifestyle. In his book, Let my People Go Surfing, Patagonia’s founder admits, â€Å"We are still not doing a good enough job of training and mentoring† (Chouinard). He says this because there are still people driving SUV’s to work everyday so they are lacking some aspects of a sustainable life. Patagonia is a decentralized organization, with Chouinard’s involvement in day-to-day managing delegated to others. Employees appear to have considerable autonomy under a system of â€Å"management by absence,† reflecting his trust in employees. Nonetheless, he admits to having a deep personal attachment to the firm (Kinnear). This exemplifies Patagonia’s development plan of one that is not only training the employee for the job, but training the individual for life. â€Å"To live well is to work well, or display a good activity† (Chouinard). This is the foundation of the development plan and is what they seek to development in all of their employees. This is what sets Patagonia apart from all the other companies in the industry and is what has made them the company that they are today. Presentation Notes Imagine working for a place where there is no dress code, shift work, or required number of work hours a week. A place where the founder and CEO speaks with you everyday as he walks to his desk after a great morning surf. A place that not only trains you for the job that you are doing, but equips you to live a sustainable life with unity with our environment. Build the best product, cause no unnecessary harm, use business to inspire and implement solutions to the environmental crisis. This is the mission statement of Patagonia, and is the reason that they are at the top of their industry. Understanding of a conventional family Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Understanding of a conventional family - Essay Example The Christian understanding of values is also very interesting. When to look deeply into the context of this issue we can see that a major part of Christians is looking for a brief, understandable, straightforward, intelligent, faithful presentation of the Bible. When to look deeply into Bible we can see that this book has its own ideas about marriage, family, divorce, remarriage, homosexuality, abortion, birth control, infertility, adoption, and singleness. This foundation is presented in the form of timely, well-informed, balanced, and pastorally wise prescriptions. The given ideas make the book something like a solid instruction that presents additional information to teachers, preachers, and other congregations involved in the case. The given book also has its ideas about popular treatments of marriage and the family. With his extensive background, the researcher provided people with an extensive background related to how people should treat such issues as gender and sexuality. T he same thing can be told about sensitivity issue. This issue is also combined with keen biblical insight. Finally, I would say that marriage and family are good gifts from a great God. These gifts are very important when we want to get a deep understanding of family and its role in our present society. Unfortunately, many of family issues are being neglected. Definition of a family was not a problem a few decades ago because the notion was stable and almost the same in any culture or nationality.

Holy Spirit Essay Example for Free

Holy Spirit Essay Mary Magdalene along with other women visited the tomb of Jesus on Easter Sunday morning to apply fresh spices to the body of Jesus who was crucified on Friday. The agony and pain carried by Mary Magdalene for Jesus has lead to visit Jesus early before the sun rise. As a matter of fact, for all believers of Christianity, this moment of Mary Magdalene witnessing an empty tomb the absence of Jesus physical body provides a strength to the faith of believers with the fact that Mary Magdalene carried the message of resurrection of Jesus first to the disciples and to the entire world. On the other side, if Mary Magdalene would not visit the tomb of Jesus on Easter Sunday morning, how the world would view the death and resurrection of Jesus, and how the gospel and missionary work of Jesus would be carried on, such as these questions would arise whereas by witnessing an empty tomb, Mary Magdalene has brought a message to the world that Jesus has risen from the dead. This amazing fact and for this purpose, Jesus may have chosen Mary Magdalene in spite of the fact that, Jesus had 12 ardent and strong followers as disciples who knew and witnessed the Lord’s miracle work and missionary work. In Matthew 28:1-2 angels declare that Jesus has risen and Jesus cannot be found among the dead and this message was first disclosed to women who visited the tomb. In Mark 16:4-5 it was stated that stone on the tomb was rolled away, and an angel was seated in side the tomb to tell that Jesus has risen from the dead and this resurrection message must be carried to all. Among all women who visited the tomb of Jesus, Mary Magdalene was the first to meet Jesus after the resurrection and also as the first person to disclose the message of resurrection of Jesus to the disciples of Jesus. The life of Mary Magdalene was one part, wherein on several occasions, was pointed out as a rich woman who led a luxurious and lavish life, who lived a family life along with brother Lazarus and sister Martha, and who possessed demons and was also viewed by people as a sinner. The second part of Mary Magdalene life began with the association of Jesus gospel work , and there was a great transformation and change in the life of life of Mary Magdalene. Mary witnessed the life of brother Lazarus which was brought back by Jesus, Jesus participation with Pharisees and Sadducees along with disciples in feast and how Jesus motivated and preached the teachings. Mary Magdalene was present on several occasions with Jesus which provide an understanding that Mary Magdalene after choosing to follow Jesus did not go back to the old life and remained with Jesus until the resurrection and Jesus accepted the presence of Mary Magdalene every where. Many scholars also state that Mary Magdalene was the best female disciple of Jesus and men disciples disliked this fact. Jesus did not permit Mary Magdalene to touch Jesus, after the resurrection, and this is quite notable as â€Å"noli me tangere† which means â€Å"Don’t touch me, for I have not ascended to my father as stated in St. John 20:17. Just after this episode, a week later Jesus visits doubting Thomas along with other disciples and asks to touch Jesus hands and side as stated in John 20:24-28. With the above facts, it is a very strong and evidential fact that Mary Magdalene was the closest disciple of Jesus who maintained well tuned relation with Jesus in all respects and Jesus did not deny this. Mary Magdalene life after Jesus is another interesting point of view as Jesus and Mary Magdalene were lead to the birth and inception of The Holy Grail and it is also interesting to take note how this has been achieved. 2. Gospels of New Testament about Mary Magdalene All the four gospels of New Testament speak about Mary as Mary Magdalene. It can be stated here that if Jesus showed much appreciation for Peter among men disciples Mary Magdalene was the most appreciative among women disciples of Jesus and Peter disliked this and as per Gospel of Thomas, Peter on several occasions asked Mary to leave Jesus and disciples and also stated that â€Å"for women are not worthy of life† (Bart D. Ehrman, Peter, Paul, and Mary Magdalene, page. 254). There is also a question whether it was Mary Magdalene who laid the foundation for the birth of Christianity, and that Mary was the first apostle of Jesus who lead to the church movement. Mary Magdalene was cured from seven demons when Jesus was journeying from one place to another preaching the good news about kingdom of god. (Luke 8:1-3) This was the first inspiration that has drawn Mary towards Jesus. In the second instance, during crucifixion Mark 15:40 along with other women viz. , Mary the mother of James, Joses and Salome, Mary Magdalene was also present for visiting the tomb of Jesus. Again in Math 27:56 Mary Magdalene with other women Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and the mother of sons of Zebedee. In John 19:25 Mary Magdalene was standing at the cross along with Mary the mother of Jesus, mother’s sister and Mary the wife of Clopas. After the crucifixion of Jesus, Mark 15:47 states that Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses were looking where Jesus was laid. Matt 27:61 states that Mary Magdalene and other Mary were sitting opposite the sepulcher. Mat 28:1 states that after the Sabbath, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to look at the grave. Mark 16:1 states that after the Sabbath, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Salome brought spices to anoint the body of Jesus. On the occasion of resurrection of Jesus, it is stated in John 20:1, Marg Magdalene came to the tomb on the first day of the week and it was still dark and Mary Magdalene saw that the stone was already taken from the tomb. Mark 16:9 states that Jesus after the resurrection, the first day of the week, first appeared to Mary Magdalene from whom Jesus casted out seven demons. In John 20:18, Mary Magdalene announced to the disciples as â€Å"I have seen the Lord†. Luke 24 states that women took the spices and went to the tomb of Jesus on the first day of the week and found that the stone was rolled away from the tomb. Women when entered the tomb, did not find the body of Lord Jesus and saw two men in dazzling garments who said â€Å"why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but he has been raised. Remember what he said to you while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be handed over to sinners and be crucified, and rise on the third day†. Immediately women among whom was Mary Magdalene was present along with Joanna, and Mary the mother of James and others who visited disciples and unfolded the message of resurrection of Jesus. This fact was first not accepted by disciples who did not believe the fact that Jesus would definitely rise from the dead on the third day after the crucifixion. This discussion clearly indicates that the presence of Mary Magdalene is constant from the time of crucifixion, during the burial of Jesus and most importantly the resurrection of Jesus. In all the three phases of Jesus crucifixion and resurrection Mary Magdalene was persistent and faithful to meet Lord Jesus Christ. This strongly communicates that Mary Magdalene was truly the first apostle of women who longed for the presence of Jesus and did not look back to the old life which was filled with luxuries and riches whereas Mary Magdalene was pursuing Jesus taking note of every good news of gospel work performed by Jesus. 3. Character analysis of Mary Magdalene Some people identify Mary Magdalene as â€Å"sinner† who anointed Jesus feet in the home of Simon, the Pharisee as stated in St. Luke 7:36-50 whereas there is no concrete evidence for this. Mary Magdalene is portrayed as an ardent follower of Jesus as it is revealed in the scriptures of New Testament in several places of gospels which describe about the association of Mary Magdalene with Jesus viz. , St. Mat 27:56, 61: 28:1, Mark 15:40,47. 16:1-19; 8:2, 24:10, John 19:25, 20:1-18. Magdala means â€Å"tower or castle† is a prosperous town on the coast of Galilee, three miles away from Capernaum, wherein there are many dye work factories and Mary is from this city which is why Mary is called as Mary Magdalene. The perfume/oil Mary uses to anoint the feet of Jesus was very expensive to an amount of $ 17,000 worth which was approximate wage of 300 days ($7 per hour x 8hrs per day) which strongly confirm the fact that Mary had great respect for Jesus and the fact that Jesus could forgive the sins of Mary Magdalene. Jesus clearly understood this fact and developed deep sympathy for Mary Magdalene and condemns the words of disciples against Mary Magdalene. St. Mark 14:3-9, St. Mat 26:6-13. The Gospel of John also identifies Mary Magdalene is also identified as a sister of Martha and Lazarus who was raised from the dead John 11:1-44 and the fact that Mary was at the feet of Jesus when a dinner was arranged in Martha and Mary’s home and did not participate in the domestic help for Martha. Mary as Magdalene is first introduced in St. Luke 8:2, and Jesus had driven seven demons out of Mary, who is called Magdalene as stated in St. Luke. As per New Testament, Mary Magdalene presence is quite evident at the time of crucifixion and after the resurrection of Jesus. In fact, Mary Magdalene was the first person to meet visit after the resurrection of Jesus. Luke 23:27 says â€Å" a large number of people followed him, including women mourned and wailed for him†. Mat 27:55 †She was there at the cross† . It gives an understanding to the people that Mary Magdalene after meeting Jesus, never looked back to the old way of life, and continued to life with God. Mary was faithful, steadfast and strong follower of Jesus until crucifixion and after the resurrection of Jesus. At the time when Jesus was carrying cross to the calvary Mary was present among those women who wept for Jesus and also as a witness for the death of Jesus on the cross as stated in Mark 15:40, Luk 23:48 and John 19:25. Particularly, when Jesus body was wrapped in linen clothes and was kept in tomb as per Jewish customs, Mary Magdalene spends lot of amount for purchase of dry spices and liquid spices as stated in Mar 16:1 to be applied for the body of Jesus on the Sabbath day. Mary visits the tomb early before the sun rise and finds that the body of Jesus was not present in the tomb, and talks to two angels who question â€Å"Woman, why are you crying? † John 20:13 and Mary answered â€Å"They have taken my Lord away, and I don’t know where they have put him†. The message of Jesus resurrection was first unfolded to the world by Mary Magdalene and Jesus first spoke to Mary Magdalene after the resurrection by saying â€Å"Greetings† (Mat 28:9) and Mary proclaims this message to the disciples as â€Å"I have seen the Lord† John 20:18. 4. Holy Grail The Holy Grail is a cup which was used by Jesus Christ at the time of Last Supper to drink wine and this was the same cup used by Joseph of Arimethea (12th Century) to hold the blood of Jesus while on the cross. The term â€Å"grail† is derived from Latin word gradale which means a dish brought to the table in various stages during the course of a meal. According to the Christian mythology, the Holy Grail is deemed to be possessed with miraculous powers and Joseph d’Arimathie late 12th century passed Holy Grail to Great Britain. The description of Holy Grail is 17cm high, in the form of a cup having a body and a base. The cup finely carved and carries 28 pea-sized pearls, two balaxes and two emeralds. An inscription is also ingraved on the back which was first read and publicized by the archaelogist Antonio Beltran. According to some documents, the Holy Grail stood at Saint Juan de la Pena Monastery at least in 1399 and in the same year, King Martin brought it to the chapel of Royal Palace at the Alfajeria in Zaragoa. After the death of King Martin, in September 1410, it was taken as a property of Barcelona. In 1424, The Holy Grail was transferred to Valencia Royal Palace and in 1437 Dan Juan, King of Navarran presented Holy Grail to Valencia Cathedral. From here, Holy Grail was moved to Alicante and to the towns of Ibiza and Palma de Mallorca. As on today, The Holy Grail is preserved in Valencia Cathedral. The Holy Grail was first discovered in The Last Supper, the painting by Leonardo Da Vinci who painted Last Supper on the wall for church community and there are questions whether the Holy Grail or the Holy cup was present in the painting. Leonardo drawn the sketch of painting from the Gospels as stated and there were many hypotheses to declare Holy Grail as a literary invention and also to decide whether it is a cup? , platter, stone or religuary. Many other writers also claim the Holy Grail as a fictitious device and there are many arguments about this. In Mat 26:27 it is stated â€Å"And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;† and a similar verse in repeated in all other gospels, which indicates that in the Passover feast, Jesus did use cup which later took the form as The Holy Grail predicted to be used by Joseph Arimathea and Mary Magdalene. This vessel used by Jesus is presumed to be the Holy Eucharist as described in the Synoptic Gospels of the New Testament. There are also other arguments that Mary Magdalene, travelled along with brother Lazarus and Joseph Arimathea and brought the Holy Grail to the coast of France. Further there are arguments whether in the Last Supper painting, Mary Magdalene was present amidst of Jesus and disciples and to this Dan Brown’s Da Vinci Code states that the person sitting next to Jesus in the Last Supper was not Mary Magdalene and it was John, the disciple of Jesus. Here John appears as a woman in the painting made by Leonardo and it depicts the art work and the imagination in that era. The Holy Grail is the preserver of Jesus missionary work and the service delivered by Jesus to the humanity. The comparison of the sacred vessel or Holy Grail with Mary Magdalene is made here that both the sacred vessel and Mary Magdalene had the presence of Jesus who performed respective jobs in the missionary work of Jesus while on earth. Sacred vessel indicates that Jesus did participate in the Last Supper along with disciples before the crucifixion and Mary Magdalene represents as the first woman apostle who lead to the movement of christian church. 5. Analysis from Old Testament about the word â€Å"Rabbi† In the gospel of John 20:13, Mary Magdalene says â€Å"They have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him†. Even in spite of the fact that Jesus stood by the side, Mary Magdalene did not recognize and mistakes Jesus for a gardener and says â€Å"Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away† (John 20:15) In John 20:16 Jesus says â€Å" Mary† and immediately Magdalene recognizes Jesus and says â€Å"Rabbouni† which means â€Å"teacher†. In John 1:38 â€Å"Then Jesus turned and saw them following, and said unto them, What seek ye? They said unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master) The original language of Old Testament is Hebrew and Rabbis are fluent in Hebrew. Jesus was a Jewish Rabbi. Teachers of Jesus were Jewish Rabbis and the main book Jesus studied was the Bible – the Old Testament. Hebrew language is considered to be a holy language and God when created the universe, God used Hebrew Alphabets and each of these letters have a shape and a special meaning. In Hebrew language the Old Testament is called as Torah which means law. Therefore Rabbis according to Old Testament are the teachers of law and Jesus was a descendant from Jewish community and was also participating in the teaching and preaching about the kingdom of God and also about the laws of social issues as well political issues. In this manner, Mary Magdalene addressed Jesus as Rabbi calling Jesus as teacher. This clearly states that Mary Magdalene learnt many facts about spiritual living and how the kingdom of God should be practiced on earth. 6. Dan Brown â€Å"Da Vinci Code† Dan Brown’s â€Å"Da Vinci Code† states that Mary Magdalene was the Holy Grail, as the vessel that carried Sangreal (Holy Grail in the Medieval French). The French word for blood is sang, which indicates a fact that Mary Magdalene was carrying the royal blood or the holy blood of Jesus as stated in the books Holy Blood, Holy Grail and The Da Vinci Code. As per this source, Dan Brown in the novel, depicts a fact that Mary Magdalene with at least one child secretly trying to enter France and seeking a refuge in Jewish community. According to this fiction, Jesus and Mary’s child called Sarah, is presumed to be an ancestress for Merovingian royals. At this period of 12th century, the popularity of Mary Magdalene was placed at greater heights and it was also one of the darkest period of civilization. It is stated that the wedding of Cana took place between Jesus and Mary Magdalene and mother of Jesus who was present instructed all the servants to carryout the instructions of Jesus when there was not enough wine. In the Jewish custom, bachelorhood was not acceptable and marriage was honored. In Matt 19:4-5 it is stated â€Å" Have ye’ not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, and said for this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh†. In weddings, mostly it is mother of bride or groom spend time and organize in the matters of food and drink and take interest to see that guests are satisfied. In the wedding of Cana, Mary the mother of Jesus was worried about the arrangements made at the wedding in spite of the fact being a guest as stated in John 2:3-10. There are many questions for a common man understanding whether was this acceptable to Mary Magdalene and whether disciples accepted this arrangement. This is one part of an argument whether did Jesus truly part of this fiction or was this a fact? And there is no end for such as these doubts who worship Jesus as Lord and Savior of the world. Some writers have truly suggested that the wedding at Cana was none other than Mary Magdalene’s own wedding with Jesus who was present with disciples. (Meera Lester, Mary Magdalene, page. 38) Another argument is that whether Mary Magadalene was present in Last Supper along with Jesus. The Da Vinci Code believes that Mary Magdalene was present in Last Supper and the novelists asks the readers to look for â€Å"V† created by the positions of disciples to the right of Jesus. The letter â€Å"V† stands for Sacred Feminine. â€Å"The symbol of hieros gamos, sacred marriage, is a six pointed star. One half of the star is made by a â€Å"V†. The other half of the star is a pyramid, a male symbol of power. The Da Vinci’s The Last Supper could reflect the artist’s beliefs regarding the importance of Mary in Jesus’ inner circle – that she was the wife of Jesus and also the Holy Grail, a human chalice to contain the savior’s blood line† (Meera Lester, Mary Magdalene, page 40) 7. Mary Magdalene bearer of the Holy Grail What is the significance of Holy Grail and what is it? These are some of the questions that interest the common man. According to the scholars, the sacred vessel that was used to hold the blood of Jesus while on the cross which was held by Joseph of Arimathea is termed as Holy Grail and another belief is that the sacred vessel that was used by Jesus to drink wine at the Last Supper is also termed as Holy Grail. Holy Grail is precious and is a historical evidence that Jesus did live and die on the cross. Another legend also states that a jar was held at the foot of cross to hold the blood of Jesus on the cross, which was held by Mary Magdalene. Vessel has become sacred because the vessel carried the holy blood of Jesus. (Margaret Starbird, Mary Magdalene: Bearer of the Holy Grail) The Holy Grail is a powerful symbol for Christianity for it is a sacred evidence of Jesus blood and chastity it carries to the entire world of christianity. The echoes of Grail promise many truths for Christian believers that precious blood of Jesus who died on the cross for bringing salvation to the entire world that whoever believes in Jesus and confesses sins, such people would be forgiven and are permitted to live a born-again life. Jesus emphasized on life of faith as the prime most important aspect in a Christian life. Why the Holy Grail is carried by Mary Magdalene and why not disciples or why not others? The answer to this question would be explained as, a story in Southern Coast of France states that Mary Magdalene was the bearer of the â€Å"sangraal†, the French word translated as â€Å"holy grail† as Magdalene was a devoted follower of Jesus and most prominently, the first person who met Jesus on Easter Sunday morning, Mary took note of all the events after the crucifixion of Jesus and silently decided to proclaim the gospel of Christianity which is why, Holy Grail is held as a sacred vessel by Mary Magdalene. In other words, the seed that was preserved by Jesus and Mary Magdalene is known as The Holy Grail which presumably carries mystical powers and also the presence of Christ. Here it can stated that Jesus has chosen Mary Magdalene to be the bearer of Holy Grail, or Mary Magdalene all by self, has consecrated the whole life to preserve the Holy Grail after the ascension of Jesus. According to the New Testament, all through the Gospels, there are no texts cited about either Holy Grail or about the life of Mary Magdalene after the ascension of Jesus. There are no evidences, how old are the gospels written in New Testament whereas going by the each scripture portion, it depicts the sanctity and power of Jesus on earth. Even in the letters written by Apostle Paul, there are no citations or discussion about Mary Magdalene as the bearer of Holy Grail. In the garden of Gethsmane, before the arrest of Jesus while Jesus was praying (John 17:1-26) (Mark 14:35-39, Mat 26:36-44). Therefore, historical evidence prove that Mary Magdalene as the bearer of Holy Grail whereas Holy Bible New Testament does not carry or state any scripture in this regard neither by Gospel writers nor essentially by Apostle Paul who has written 22 letters on the gospel of Jesus Christ which indicate that it was St. Paul who has brought a daylight to Christianity. 8. Conclusion Whether a fiction or a fact that is based on Dan Brown’s The Da Vinci Code, according to the New Testament, Jesus came into the world as Messiah, â€Å"Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us (Mat 1:23). The teachings of Jesus especially sermon on the mount Mat 5:1-19, miracles, parables and teachings are closely relevant to this day and the application and implementation of these theories have always given perfect results which is why Christianity is considered to be a fruitful and life giving religion in the world and any contradictory theories to this effect would disappear through the time whereas the teachings of Jesus, the works of Holy Spirit would continue to lead believers.
